First nap in da crib!

Baby girl took her first nap in her big girl crib today! She did GREAT. She slept for an hour, while I stayed in her room just watching and quietly doing stuff on the computer. Rocky and Taylor also napped...under the crib. Dorks.

Up until now, she has been sleeping in her Rock and Play which I love because of the slight incline, the fact that it is easy to take from room to room, and the fact that it snuggles her and keeps her from moving around too much.

Truth be told, I've been the one holding her back from sleeping in her crib. I like having her near me at night! I like to hear every movement and see what she's up to, even if that means less-than-sound-sleep for me. Oh, and I have it in my head that the faster I respond to her the more she will trust that mommy and daddy are there for her and to not be scared or feel alone...so down the road she won't be scared or hesitant to take naps because she will KNOW that someone will be there when she wakes. Our doctors have said you can't "spoil" a baby this young, so I'm rollin' with it. It works for us :-)

Check out all these sleepy girl photos...there is nothing sweeter than a sleeping baby, am I right? BUT I think we can all agree this would be utterly CREEPY of me to have all these photos if she wasn't just an adorable itty bitty baby. Soooo if I'm still sneaking in her room to take pictures of her sleeping when she is 18, pool your money together and get me some therapy. K, thanks.

The best thing about her naps? When she wakes up and gives me the BIGGEST smile when I say "Good Mornnnnning Makaela!!" or "Hiiiii baby girl!" She sure does know how to show me the love with that gummy smile. Throw in a "coo" and I melt. 

Nursery Tour

Have been wanting to do this post for a little while but I'm a lil technologically challenged and was having trouble with the video.

When we set to working on her nursery we knew we didn't want it to be total cookie cutter. We wanted it to be simple and warm with DIY elements and personalized touches from local or etsy artists.

Truth be told, Tim had to reel me in several times because I wanted to go overboard....so many ideas, so little space!

We had the artwork on the left in the picture below custom made by one of our favorite Etsy artists. It normally is made to say "I love the shit out of you" which we were all about and then suddenly when it came time to order we decided to opt for an alternative in case one day she asks what it says, haha. 

I drew the one in the middle with some good ol' colored pencils and mounted it on sparkly silver card stock. We love us some Monsters Inc.

The one on the right is a small print from another Etsy artist. 

This painting below was done on a thin canvas by an artist who sells her work at Pike's Place Market in Seattle. It's hard to tell in the photo but it has some cute glittery accents. 

These horseshoes were snagged on our recent trip to Mt. Hood, Oregon. They had some other embellishments that we removed to make it just how we wanted it.

We just picked this air plant and the bowl from West Elm. We're all about some low maintenance greenery.

Owls are super adorable right? The one on the right was snagged at a cute children's boutique in Seattle, but was made by some Alberta Street locals in Portland, Oregon. 

Scrap book paper + ikea picture frames = cheap art for baby to look at while on the changing table.

These hearts came with other colored hearts on a string of garland. We just broke it down and then hung a few of our favorites with fishing line above the lounge chair, kind of like a mobile for baby girl to look at.

The bookshelves that I forgot to take a picture of and am too lazy to go photograph right now are just cheapy Ikea spice racks that we painted in grey and green. Can't wait for story time with the little one <3

Glider FAIL :(

Back when we posted early pictures of the nursery we mentioned the gray and white glider we were planning to get.

Well that bad boy went on sale, so we snatched it up. It was delivered to the store yesterday and we rushed to pick it up. We were SO excited, and had visions of finishing the nursery this weekend.

Sadly, when we got it home we noticed it wasn't gray at all. It was a dark mocha color. Sigh.

We called the store and provided all the specifications. They looked at the one they have on their showroom floor and confirmed theirs was gray. They have no clue why ours is mocha, and offered to order a new one. However, since they don't know why it came in mocha, and there isn't a "select a color" option when placing the order, we declined. We don't want to wait another 7-14 days to be disappointed again! We also asked if we could just buy the floor sample, because it's EXACTLY what we want....they gave us a big fat no. Some sort of safety cover-their-butt policy. But don't think we won't try and sweet talk them one more time when we make the drive up there again to return the mocha glider.

So, last night we spent a lot of time perusing the internet in search of a gray glider or comfy gray nursery appropriate chair.

Here's what we learned.....they aren't cheap. What to do? What to do?

A chair in the nursery isn't a NECESSITY, but we've envisioned it for so long it's hard to shake the idea!

The Nursery

While I was in Florida last month visiting family, the hubs made some major progress on the nursery.

Before I left we bought a few paint samples (a light gray, a very pale pink, a more bold and sassy pink, and a very pale green-yellow color) and stared at them on wall in different lighting for awhile. I was pretty set on gray before we got the samples, because almost all the "inspiration nurseries" I looked at had gray paint. Tim was the one that encouraged getting pink samples, and after mulling over it for a day or two we both fell in love with the champagne pink color (pale pink)!

Not only did Tim paint while I was away (woo-hoo!) and purchase and hang the chandelier we'd been eye-ing,  he also researched baby furniture (safety, durability etc.) and bought a gorgeous white wood convertible crib and a white wood dresser. (He's the best). The furniture is so charming and looks adorable against the champagne pink walls.

Once I got back we also bought the matching changing table. Originally we had no intention of getting one, but after researching promotions it actually ended up being virtually free!

Here are some pictures of the pieces. The paint doesn't photograph true to color so ya'll are just going to have to come see it in person for yourselves :)

 

Oh, and the gray material on top of the changing table...those are the curtains we will soon hang.

In the coming weeks (or months probably) I'm going to add all the fun details to the room, including some gray paint stripes on an accent wall, artwork, bookshelves etc.

We've got our eye on this glider which we found at Target (online only) and Babies R Us. But haven't taken the plunge to purchase it yet. Won't it look adorable with the other gray and white accents?

One last thing, how cute is this owl that I had to snag for the baby girl from Pier One this weekend?
